Results of a November, 2004 exit interview survey conducted by Lauren Schlau Consulting, Los Angeles, California. A total of 1,325 random surveys were completed during a two-week period at 11 California Welcome Centers.
- Over 1 million visitors during 2004
- 80% used CWC's as main source of "during trip" information
- 74% stopped for information on things to see and do
- 78% traveling for pleasure
- 5-6 nights average stay
- 66% staying in hotels and motels
- 14% staying in RV parks or campgrounds
- 77% plan to visit featured attraction as a result of information obtained at a CWC
- 79% from US, 21% International

Visit the California Welcome Center at MainPlace in the heart of Orange County. The California Welcome Center offers free Internet access for checking email, visitor information, hotel reservations, a language bank, family restrooms, select attraction ticket sales, souvenirs, access to ATM's, mass transit information and more. MainPlace offers 190 stores, restaurants and movie theaters with Southern California shopping at its best. A convenient MainPlace shopper shuttle from Anaheim area hotels will take you to the California Welcome Center or you may reach it by private vehicle. Located at the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 22 at the Main Street exit. From Highway 57 south, exit Highway 22 east to Main Street. |

Often referred to as the "gateway" to California's outback," the Morongo Basin is conveniently situated just a short drive to some of Southern California's great outdoor destinations. With the majestic Joshua Tree National Park on its southern border, the basin communities play host year-round to visitors and outdoor recreation enthusiasts from all over the world. The region's California Welcome Center is found on State Route 62 in Yucca Valley, a high desert community located about 30 miles northeast of Palm Springs, and just an hour from the Big Bear area mountain resorts. The highway is a favorite route for southern Californians headed to the Colorado River vacation spots. Locals and visitors enjoy sunshine and clear skies more than 320 days a year, providing the ideal environment for equestrian activities, night sky observation, and a plethora of outdoor recreation opportunities. The unique natural surroundings of the Joshua Tree National Park have made it a favorite destination for more than a million visitors each year, particularly rock climbers, hikers, campers, photographers and nature enthusiasts.
